movie critique article

Writing movie critiques is a task given to students for the purpose of developing critical thinking and enhancing writing skills.

Faced with the task of writing movie critiques students often run into difficulties by not adhering to simple guidelines. Following simple guidelines makes the writing task easy.

Guidelines for making a movie critique writing easy

Make your task of writing a movie critique easier by using these guidelines.

  • Just watching the movie on which the movie critique has to be written is not sufficient. Make notes while watching it. Some of the factors on which to base the notes are key moments, lead actors with important roles in the movie, the director, and the producer.
  • Movies are based on stories. There are three significant parts to the story consisting of the beginning, the climax, and the end. All these three components must be present in your movie critique.
  • Develop the opening of the movie critique in a manner that draws the attention of the reader. Mentioning the names of the main actors, the director, and the producer in the opening is a common tactic towards this objective.
  • The middle paragraphs of your movie critique are where the substance of the critique is presented. A critical evaluation of the story plot line, key scenes, and character development are some of the elements that can be used here.
  • The middle paragraphs come to an end with a pointer towards the climax of the movie. Be careful however to only provide hints and not the full climax itself.
  • Close the movie critique by giving your opinion of the movie and the reasons for the opinion.

These guidelines will make movie critique writing easy.
